Beginning June 1, a new $10 bill will officially enter into circulation from the Bank of Canada. This note will represent the celebration of the 150th anniversary of Confederation. The bill has a number of new design features and for the first time, four individuals will be on the front of a Canadian bank note: Sir John A. Macdonald, Sir George-Étienne Cartier, Canada’s first female member of parliament Agnes Macphail and Canada’s first Indigienous senator James Gladstone or Akay-na-muka—his Blackfoot name. The design also incorporates Inuit and Metis cultural elements as well as Canada’s natural beauty and unique landscapes. A total of 40 million bank notes will be issued by the BoC and will circulate alongside the current bill and will not replace it. (Photo: Bank of Canada)
