Kids are expensive, no doubt, but is one gender MORE costly than the other? MoneyTips broke down costs per child for food, school supplies, extracurricular activities, clothes, and transportation using data collected from a group of parents. On average, most costs turned out be the about the same, like food, sports, and transportation, but girls were more expensive in two categories: clothing and toiletries, and school supplies. MoneyTips estimates that parents will spend about $80 more on girls per month, which works out to be $17 280 over the course of 18 years.
