Sizzle, sizzle. #NationalFajitaDay is this Friday and we’ve got your meal prep done for a fun Fajita Friday meal!  This recipe can use meat or vegetarian options (tofu, chickpeas) and pairs well with grilled onions and peppers…all wrapped up in a tasty flour tortilla!

Why buy the seasoning when you can make it right at home.   This will allow you to control exactly what goes into your seasoning and how much.   If you don’t like an ingredient, you can choose to not include it or substitute for something else, for example if you like spicy fajita seasoning, just add more chili powder or cayenne pepper. Also, making your own spice blend at home will give your wallet a break in the long run.    Even if you have to go buy the spices – they last and can be used over and over, unlike the “one-time” use pre-packages.  It will be your NEW go-to seasoning for fajita night!

Ingredients:

Serves 4, adjust to make more or less.

1 tablespoon cornstarch

2 teaspoons chili powder

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon ground paprika

1 teaspoon white sugar

½ teaspoon onion powder

½ teaspoon garlic powder

½ teaspoon ground cumin

¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper

How to Store Fajita Seasoning:

Store homemade fajita seasoning in an airtight container (mason jars work great!) in a cool, dry place — like your spice cabinet or pantry, and will stay fresh for six months.

*You can also use this seasoning to make vegetable fajitas, adding flavour to your vegetables or meat alternative.
