Back in August, the internet went in a frenzy a convincing video, which was taken at the Venice Film Festival, appeared to show Harry Styles spitting into Chris Pine’s lap.

Chris, who costarred alongside Harry in Don’t Worry Darling, is finally weighing in on the online drama.  “Harry’s a very, very kind guy,” he tells Esquire in a new interview.  “I had no idea what happened,” he continued.  Chris then revealed it was his publicist who ‘woke him up in the middle of the night insisting they needed to release a statement,’ “She showed me the thing, and it does look, indeed, like Harry spitting on me. He didn’t spit on me.”

Prior to this interview, Chris denied that Harry spat on him and in September his reps released a statement saying, “It was simply an odd online illusion.”

With Esquire, Chris revealed, “He leaned down, and I think he said, ‘It’s just words, isn’t it?’ ‘Cause we had this little joke. We’re all jet-lagged, we’re all trying to answer these questions. Sometimes when you’re doing these press things, your brain gets befuddled and you start speaking gibberish. And we had a joke: ‘It’s just words, man.’”
