CNN reports that a team of scientists and historians have determined that 536 AD was the absolute worst time to be alive since human beings have been on Earth. During this time, there was a giant volcanic eruption in Iceland, resulting in an ash cloud that kept the northern hemisphere in the dark for 18 months. This also had temperatures dropping to their coldest causing mass crop failure and starvation. A few years later, the bubonic plague spread across the Roman Empire from Egypt to Europe, killing as many as 50 million people. Things were so bad, that humanity didn’t fully recover until about 640 -a full century later. (Photo: Christian Headlines)
