According to Environment Canada, Calgary has already been through the dead of winter. This is calculated based on the normal average temperature throughout the year, over a 30 year period. The highs and lows are plotted into a graph for 365 days and then you get two points at the top and bottom of the curve. The bottom point would be considered the “dead of winter,” which is generally as cold as it gets. Dead of winter dates aren’t the same in every location; for instance, Vancouver experienced the “dead” on the third of this month, while Calgary’s was on the 12th. Halifax and Iqualuit won’t go through this period until February. (Photo: Advanced Tree Care)
